Project Manager
We emphasize intensive onsite project management. Project management requires a wide range of skills and the ability to see the big picture as well as
focus on the details which make a project a success. We believe that the best projects are those where all parties work very closely together
focusing on the project goals. People skills are essential in this position to ensure success in working with:
- Owners
- Construction Managers
- Subcontractors
- Engineers
- Suppliers
- Field Crews
Our Project Managers are given a great deal of responsibility and authority to manage their projects. Our project office is on the construction
site and is furnished with all the office resources needed to completely manage the project from the field location.
Our Project Managers are typically involved in the bid process for their own projects, complete the project setup and buyout, and manage the project from
start to finish. This approach requires a mastery of many different aspects of construction, but results in a sense of accomplishment when project goals are
accomplished.
Our qualifications for Project Manager requires a degree in Civil/Construction Engineering or Construction Management from an accredited college or university.
Project Engineer
The Project Engineer position is designed as an entry-level position oriented towards learning the construction process through bidding and managing construction
projects. Many of the duties are designed specifically to develop the skills required for project management. We try to avoid specialization and instead, focus
on learning and developing the skills that will eventually be required of a Project Manager.
During the first month of employment, the Project Engineer will work on several field crews, meeting our foremen and getting to know firsthand, the type of work
we do. Additional management skills will be added over a two year training period. These skills include:
- Timekeeping
- Scheduling
- Quality Control
- Estimating
- Purchasing
- Contract Interpretation
- Cost Control
- Safety
- Submittals
- Change Orders
- Labor Relations
- Time Management
You will be challenged to learn a great deal in a short period of time. It is our goal to assist you in any way we can to make your training period
a successful transition on your road to successful career in construction project management.
Our qualifications for Project Engineer requires a degree in Civil/Construction Engineering or Construction Management from an accredited college or university.
Craftsmen/Field Personnel
The Lyles Construction Group of companies are signatories to various Union Master Labor Agreements including: Carpenters, Millwrights, Laborers, and Cement Masons.
We employ apprentices, journeymen, and foremen in these construction unions. We self perform in the areas of concrete formwork, concrete placement, pipe
installation, and equipment setting. We consider our foremen and key individuals to be the most capable and best trained in industry.
The complimentary skills that our field crews and project managers bring to projects has created our firm's success. We are always seeking new field
employees that are able to travel and enjoy the special challenges of construction.
Student Interns
The Lyles Construction Group realizes that our future lies in the outstanding construction and engineering education provided at our universities. We have
consistently dedicated our resources so our education priorities are met. Through our parent company, Lyles Diversified, we are proud to sponsor the
Lyles Construction Lab at Purdue University and provide leadership on the
California State University Fresno, Lyles College of Engineering Advisory Board and the
Construction Management Advisory Board.
Generally, our intern opportunities are part-time for a semester or quarter term. They are very flexible in the amount of hours per week as well as the construction
specialty that the student will learn. The Co-Op program is a three to six month full-time senior-oriented position where the student is provided with a chance to
really get the feel of active project management. The student is allowed to develop within many different construction specialties and is provided with applicable
responsibilities depending on past construction experience.
The Lyles Construction Group takes pride in providing on-campus recruiting presentations and interviews to several colleges each year. The presentations offer
students the chance to get to know our company as well as provide an excellent opportunity for immediate interviews.
